Professional safety course for 20 Yemeni journalists concludes in Taiz

 

A two-day course on occupational safety, first aid and digital security, organized by the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate in cooperation with the International Federation of Journalists and UNESCO, concluded today, Thursday (July 4, 2024), in Taiz.

The course aimed to provide the participants with information and skills in the field of occupational safety, and how to avoid being exposed to preventable risks while on duty during conflict and war.

Fikri Qasim, Chairman of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate Branches Committee stressed the importance of delivering such a course which helps journalists be familiar with the rules of professional safety and first aid to prevent risks to which a journalist may be exposed to.

He Pointed out that many journalists were killed because of taking risks without understanding the conflict environment and their lack of knowledge and awareness of safety rules.

Imad Al-Saqqaf, the deputy head of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate in Taiz, welcomed the participants, stressing the necessity of benefiting from the course.

He said the course is of great importance to journalists and media professionals, especially during their press coverage of conflicts and wars.

Twenty participants from various media outlets in Taiz attended the course. The participants thanked the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate for organizing such constructive courses which aimed at providing journalists and media professionals with information and skills related to professional safety, first aid and digital security methods.

They stressed the importance of such courses, especially since the country is living in conditions of war and conflict, and this requires media workers, specifically those who cover field events, to be fully aware of the rules of occupational safety and first aid.

At the end of the course, certificates were distributed to the participants.
